Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 28, 2026

This policy covers the Unreal Musician app for Windows and the unrealmusician.com website. It explains what we collect, why we collect it, who receives it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have.

The short version

  • The free app needs no account and sends no personal details.
  • The app checks for updates and sends anonymous usage statistics. Neither includes an identifier that points to you.
  • If you activate Pro, the app sends your license key and a pseudonymous device identifier so that we can verify your license and apply the device limit.
  • When you buy Pro, we keep your email address, your order details and your license. PayPal handles the payment, and we never see your card details.
  • We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
  • To see or delete your data, email [email protected].

Who we are

Algosyntax Pty Ltd makes Unreal Musician and runs unrealmusician.com. We are the “controller” of the personal data described here, which means we decide why and how it is used.

Email: [email protected]

We handle personal data in line with the data protection laws that apply to us and to you, including the EU and UK GDPR where they apply.

What the app sends

The app connects to our servers over an encrypted connection for the purposes below. Like any internet connection, this shows your IP address and basic technical details, such as the app version and operating system, to us and to our infrastructure providers.

Update checks

  • The app asks whether a newer version is available. The request contains no personal details, and we do not use it to identify you.

Usage statistics

  • The app reports its version and platform so that we can see which versions are in use. The report contains no account, device or install identifier.
  • We keep these statistics only in aggregated form.

Pro license checks (only if you enter a key)

When you activate Pro, while a key is saved, and when you deactivate a PC, the app sends:

  • your license key
  • a device identifier. This is a pseudonymous value generated on your PC that lets us tell your PCs apart. It does not contain your name, your user account or hardware serial numbers.

Our license records hold the key, the email address and order it was bought with, the key’s status, the device identifiers of the PCs that use it, and when each PC was activated and last checked. Because the device identifier is linked to your email address, we treat it as personal data. We use these records to verify your license, apply the device limit, let you move your license to another PC, and revoke refunded or misused keys.

If you never enter a key, the app sends no license data.

Links in the app, such as Buy Pro and update notices, open in your web browser. The website section below covers those visits.

What stays on your PC

Your settings, your plugin list, your license file (Pro only) and your rendered videos are stored on your PC and are not uploaded. The app reads the MIDI files you import, but it does not copy or upload them.

Uninstalling the app removes its settings and license file, but not your rendered videos. To remove a PC’s device identifier from our records, deactivate that PC before you uninstall, or contact support.

VST3 plugins (Pro)

Pro lets you load a third-party VST3 instrument. That plugin is another developer’s software, and we do not control what it does, including any connections it makes or data it collects. Its developer’s privacy policy applies.

Microsoft Store

If you install the app from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft handles downloads, installs and updates under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Microsoft may give us aggregated reports, such as install counts and crash summaries.

What the website collects

Orders

You do not need an account to buy. For each order we store:

  • your email address, and your name if you give one
  • your IP address
  • purchase details such as the product, price, date and payment status
  • a record of your consent to immediate delivery, which you give at checkout and your receipt also confirms

We need your email address to deliver your key. We use your order details to deliver your key, send your receipt, handle refunds and support, and keep business records.

Payment

PayPal processes the payment. Your payment details go to PayPal, not to us, and we never see or store card numbers. PayPal tells us whether the payment went through. PayPal’s privacy statement covers what PayPal collects.

Email

We use an email service provider to send your receipt and license key and to receive messages sent to our support address. When you email us, we keep your address, your message and any attachments so that we can answer you.

Site delivery and security

Our hosting and content delivery providers process your IP address and standard request details to deliver pages and protect the site and our services from abuse. We also use limited technical data for a short time to prevent abuse of our license and app services.

Cookies

  • The site uses only cookies that are needed for the cart and checkout to work. We do not use them for tracking.
  • We do not use analytics or advertising cookies.
  • Our payment and security providers may set their own cookies that are needed for checkout and site protection.

Discord

Our community is on Discord. If you join, Discord’s privacy policy applies, and other members can see what you post.

Why we use your data

  • Delivering and supporting Pro (activation, license checks, moving PCs, lost keys, refunds): we need this to carry out our agreement with you.
  • Processing orders and keeping business records: we need this to carry out our agreement with you and to meet our legal duty to keep accounting records.
  • Update checks and usage statistics: our legitimate interest in keeping the app up to date and knowing which versions are in use.
  • Security and abuse prevention: our legitimate interest in protecting the site, our services and our customers.
  • Answering your emails: we need this to respond to your request.
  • Necessary cookies: we need these to provide the checkout you asked for.

We do not use your data for advertising or profiling. We send marketing emails only where you have agreed to receive them or the law otherwise allows it, and you can opt out at any time.

Who we share data with

We share personal data only with the following categories of recipients, and each receives only what it needs for its role:

  • our payment processor, PayPal
  • e-commerce service providers that connect our checkout to the payment processor
  • our email service provider
  • our hosting, content delivery and security providers
  • professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers, where needed
  • a buyer or successor, if our business or the app is sold or reorganised
  • authorities, only when the law requires it

We do not sell or rent personal data. If you would like more detail about the providers that process your data, email us.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses in our providers’ data protection terms.

How long we keep data

  • Usage statistics: up to 400 days, in aggregated form only.
  • Short-term security data: deleted shortly after use.
  • Update checks: we do not store them, apart from short-term technical logs kept by our infrastructure providers.
  • License key, email, order and status: while the license exists. A refunded or revoked key is kept as a revoked record to prevent reuse.
  • Device identifiers: until you deactivate that PC or support resets your PCs.
  • Orders: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
  • Emails: as long as needed to handle your request and keep a support history.
  • Settings and license file on your PC: until you uninstall the app.
  • Rendered videos: until you delete them.

How we protect data

We use encrypted connections, create the device identifier on your PC before it is sent, limit who can access customer records, and leave card data with our payment processor. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you where the law requires it.

Your choices and rights

Choices in the app

  • Use the free version without a key. The app then sends no license data.
  • Free features work without internet.
  • Move Pro to another PC with Settings > General > License > Deactivate this PC. This removes that PC’s device identifier from our records and the license file from your PC.
  • Uninstall the app to remove its local settings.
  • Delete your rendered videos at any time.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • correct it
  • delete it
  • restrict or object to how we use it
  • send it to you in a portable format

To make a request, email [email protected] from your purchase email address, or include your order details so that we can confirm it is you. We reply within the time the law requires, which is usually one month.

Two limits apply to deletion:

  • Deleting license data ends the license, so the key stops working.
  • We may need to keep order records for the legal period listed above.

You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.

Children

Unreal Musician is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example when the app, the site or our providers change. We post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
