Get help with Unreal Musician

How to activate Pro, move it to another PC, use VST3 instruments and fix license messages. If your answer isn’t here, email us or ask on Discord.

Activate Pro

You need your license key and an internet connection.

  1. Buy Pro. Your key is in your receipt email and on the receipt page after checkout.
  2. Open Unreal Musician and click Settings in the title bar.
  3. Open the General page.
  4. In the License section, paste your key. Capital letters and dashes are optional.
  5. Click Activate.

Pro is ready when “Unreal Musician Pro is unlocked” appears. The License section then shows the last 5 characters of your key and how many of its 2 PCs are in use.

Buy Pro

Move Pro to another PC

One key works on 2 PCs at a time. To use it on another PC, free one of them first.

  1. On the PC you are leaving, open Settings > General > License.
  2. Click Deactivate this PC. This needs an internet connection.
  3. Activate Pro on the new PC as described above.

Good to know:

  • You can deactivate a key up to 2 times in 30 days.
  • Reinstalling Unreal Musician on the same PC doesn’t use another slot. Paste your key and click Activate again.
  • Reinstalling Windows gives the PC a new ID, so it uses a new slot. If you can, deactivate before you reinstall.
  • If a PC is broken, sold or already wiped, email [email protected] with your purchase email and we will reset your PCs.

Working offline

  • The Free version works without an internet connection.
  • Pro checks your key each time Unreal Musician starts. After each successful check, Pro works offline for 30 days.
  • If you start Unreal Musician offline, the License section shows “Pro is active offline until” and the date.
  • After 30 days without a check, Pro locks. Free features keep working. To unlock Pro, connect to the internet and click Activate.

Lost your key

  1. Search your inbox and spam folder for your Unreal Musician receipt. Your key is in it.
  2. If you can’t find it, email [email protected] with the email address you used at checkout. We’ll send your receipt to that address again.

You don’t have an account or a password. We find your order by your purchase email.

System requirements

  • Windows 11 (64-bit). Unreal Musician runs on Windows only.
  • A DirectX 12 graphics card
  • Internet: the Free version doesn’t need it. Pro needs it to activate, then at least once every 30 days.

Windows N editions: install the Media Feature Pack

Windows N editions don’t include the Windows media components that Unreal Musician uses to make videos. Without them, a render won’t start, and the app says “Video rendering needs the Windows Media Feature Pack.”

To fix this, install Microsoft’s free Media Feature Pack:

  1. Open Settings and search for Optional features.
  2. Add the Media Feature Pack.
  3. Restart your PC, then start the render again.

VST3 instrument tips

With Pro, one VST3 instrument of your choice plays your whole song instead of the built-in piano.

Where Unreal Musician looks for plugins

  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Common\VST3

If your plugin is in another folder

  1. Open Settings > VST Plugins.
  2. Click Add Folder and choose the folder that holds your .vst3 files.
  3. Click Rescan, then Save.

Each folder has a … menu. Use it to rescan only that folder, remove it, or open it in Explorer.

Choose your instrument

  • Pick your instrument under Selected Playback Plugin, then click Save.
  • To choose sounds, click Open Plugin GUI in the main window. Unreal Musician doesn’t save these sound settings when it closes.

What works

  • Instrument plugins only. Effect plugins show as “Not an instrument” and can’t be selected.
  • 64-bit VST3 only. VST2, AU, CLAP and 32-bit plugins are not supported.
  • One instrument plays every track.
  • If you just installed a plugin, click Rescan. You can also turn on Auto-scan on launch so plugins are scanned each time the app starts.
  • Plugins marked “Failed to load” or “Crashed on load” can’t be used. If a plugin crashes while it loads, Unreal Musician skips it the next time it starts, so the app still opens. Installing a new version of the plugin clears “Crashed on load”.
  • Check a plugin’s license before you publish a video made with its sound.

License messages and what to do

Some messages name [email protected]. It reaches the same inbox as [email protected].

“Too many deactivations recently. Try again later, or email [email protected].” You can deactivate a key up to 2 times in 30 days. Try again later. If you need to move Pro now, email support.

“Too many license attempts from your network. Try again within the hour.” Too many license requests came from your internet connection. This can happen on a shared network. Wait up to an hour, then try once.

“This key is already active on as many PCs as it allows. Deactivate it on another PC, or email [email protected].” Your key is in use on 2 PCs. Deactivate it on one of them. If you can’t get to that PC, email support with your purchase email and we will reset your PCs.

“This key was refunded or revoked, so it no longer unlocks Pro.” Unreal Musician now runs as the Free version. If you didn’t ask for a refund, email support with your purchase email.

“This key was not recognized…” or “That isn’t a license key…” Copy the whole key again from your receipt. Keys look like XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.

“Couldn’t reach unrealmusician.com…” or “unrealmusician.com hasn’t confirmed your key since Unreal Musician started…” Connect to the internet, then click Activate.

“This PC’s activation was released on the website. Click Activate to use your key here again.” This usually appears after we reset your PCs. Click Activate.

Refunds

You can ask for a refund within 7 days of purchase. Try the Free version first to see how the pianist plays your songs.

  • To ask for a refund, email [email protected] with your purchase email.
  • A refund revokes your key. Pro stops at the app’s next online check, or when its 30 offline days run out, whichever comes first.
